Scoops of Speech and Language

Wow.. I can't believe this school year is almost over! The last week of speech is the perfect time for a quick ice cream theme!
Earlier this month I whipped up a quick ice cream craft! It was art day school wide, so I wanted to carry that over into the speech room. I scribbled (because, seriously.. what I do cannot be called drawing haha) a pitiful ice cream cone pattern and scoop. I then used the patterns to cut out enough ice cream cones and scoops to last for the day. It was super easy and proof that even the most pitiful patterns can make a cute craft!

First, I provided each student with a cone and their choice of scoop.
I used articulation words from my Color, Cut, and Glue series. They are small squares that contain articulation words that are perfect for using with crafts. Students colored their words, cut them out, and glued them onto their ice cream scoop.
Here are the finished products! They kids loved making these and were so proud to take them home!
I quickly discovered that this little template could also be used for cupcakes and trees! Okay, so none looked exactly like an ice cream cone! haha!
Maybe next Earth Day, I'll use this template again! I thought this one was hilarious!

This week after my kids cut out and assemble their passports for summer practice, I'll be giving my artic kids an ice cream coloring sheet! It's the last week and I think they'll love ending the year with some more ice cream! :)

Here's a peek at the coloring sheets. Each scoop contains an articulation word and picture to support non-readers! After students say a word 10 times or more then they can color a scoop! It's a great way for students to remain occupied and have fun while they wait for their turn to engage in repetitive drills. Here are some samples:
Next to the scoop is also a cute picture that represents the sound!

Scoops of Articulation: Early and Later Sounds
This packet contains a page for the initial and final position of early and later sounds.

Scoops of Articulation: Blends
This packet contains 2 pages for each blend (ex. /sp/, /gr/, /bl/, etc) and then two combination pages for /s/ blends, /r/ blends, and /l/ blends.

These two packets have also been bundled together. You can find the bundle by clicking HERE.

Of course, no theme is complete without a book! Here are some great books about ice cream!
Speaking of books... Please save the date! June 3rd! My weekly series/linky party Wild About Books Wednesday will be returning on June 3rd! I've been knee deep in paperwork for months now, so my book series had to go on hiatus. It will be returning just in time for summer vacation! I can't wait for summer blogging!
