Halloween Articulation Giveaway!

Seriously, I can barely contain myself! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and I cannot wait to start introducing some cute spookiness into my speech room. As soon as October hits, it's on! I celebrate Halloween throughout the entire month of October, making it one of my favorite months of therapy! Of course, a new season/holiday also marks a new entry into my Color, Cut, and Glue Articulation Activities line! I'm bursting with excitement about my new theme - Halloween!

Halloween Color, Cut, and Glue Articulation Activities: Early Developing Sounds 

How cute is Frank?! I can barely stand it! This packet contains 108 pages full of early developing sounds. Each sound contains 6 pages in the initial position and 6 pages in the final position! If you're new to these types of activities, they are perfect for articulation therapy! While students wait to participate in repetitive drills they stay engaged by coloring the pictures, cutting out the words, and gluing their words around or on the main picture on the top part of the sheet! When I use these activities there are virtually no interruptions, because students are so occupied. Students also produce a crazy amount of repetitions.

Halloween Color, Cut, and Glue Articulation Activities: Later Developing Sounds

This packet contains 106 NO PREP Activities. Again, each sound features 6 pages in the initial position and 6 pages in the final position. This packet also contains Frank n' friends and a slew of Halloween clip art! You'll have many options to get you through the Halloween season!

A Slice of Speech (September 29th, 2014)

Happy Sunday! Are you ready for another week? If not, I have your back! Each Sunday, I share a slice of speech - my visual lesson plans for the upcoming week!

I absolutely love when bloggers share their lesson plans, so I'm so excited that I have finally jumped on board with this new series! Last week, my students giggled and had a blast with If You Give a Dog a Donut. Seriously, students love Laura Numeroff's books! They're just so much fun. We will keep the ball rolling this week with If You Give a Cat a Cupcake!

Expressively, we will continue working on our retelling skills and start working on sequencing! Receptively, we will be practicing answering WH ?s based on the book, following temporal directions, and working on understanding prepositions. I recently updated my If You Give a Cat a Cupcake: Book Companion and it now features lots of print n' go activities for many speech and language skills! I'm excited to use the NO PREP grammar activities for plurals and pronouns this week.

My little fluency group will be playing Stuttering Jeopardy - it's critical for students who stutter to know as much as possible about stuttering! When you download the visual plans, just click the books for a link to Fluency Friday's free resource.

In articulation, we will be doing our first artic challenge of the year! The Peachie Speechie has sooo many great challenges for articulation and my students LOVED them last year. The Football Challenge is perfect for fall! The rest of the week, we will continue using Fall Color, Cut, and Glue activities!

Click, Clack, Boo: A Tricky Treat!

Happy Fall Ya'll! I love the crisp in the morning air, pumpkin spiced crullers, colorful leaves, festivals, and Halloween! Seriously, I love everything about fall so brace yourselves for a series of Fall and Halloween themed Wild About Books Wednesdays! If you're a blogger, I'd love if you would join in on the fun! I can NEVER get a enough ideas about how to use books in therapy! Just use the picture at the bottom on the post to link back to me.

The cows, ducks, and Farmer Brown are at it again! This time it's Halloween and Farmer Brown wants no part of it! Costumes scare him and the thought of vampires and goblins gives him nightmares! The animals, however, LOVE Halloween! They throw a big shindig in the barn, complete with a best costume contest! In a witty turn of events, Farmer Brown finds himself at the party in his pajamas and wins! It's a cute book and a must, especially if you've read Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type to your students. I think you guys know that I adore Doreen Cronin! This is the third or fourth time I've featured one of her books. haha

The possibilities are endless! Here are just a handful of ideas:

1) Inferencing: There are so many inferential questions that can be asked, such as "Who knocked on Farmer Brown's door?" or "Which animal do you think might win the most candy eaten prize?"

2) Executive Functioning: Students can plan their own Halloween parties!

3) Describing: Students can describe all the costumes at the party, farm animals, or Farmer Brown!

4) Categories: Students can sort scary costumes with non-scary costumes! After costumes are sorted, lead a discussion about which ones Farmer Brown would like or not like based upon what we know about him.

A Slice of Speech (September 22, 2014)

Welcome to another addition of A Slice of Speech! Please join me each Sunday to get a peek at my visual lesson plans for the upcoming week!

Last week, my students had a blast with my How I Became A Pirate Book Companion! Pirate Week was a huge success and I'm not ready to let go just yet! This week we will be reading If You Give A Dog A Donut by Laura Numeroff. I think this is the PERFECT book to transition out of a pirate theme. In this delightful book, a boy gives a dog a donut and inadvertently opens up a can of worms! A yummy donut leads to apples, baseball, kites, pirates, and more! This book is also a perfect segue into an apple theme! Without further ado.. Here are my plans for this upcoming week:

My book companion for If You Give a Dog a Donut was the very first material that I made! I recently revamped it with spanking new fonts and added 14 NO PREP activities! I can't wait to use it this week with my students. I love using books to support my students' goals. Expressively, we will be working on retelling stories with complete sentences, using vocabulary from the book, and asking each other questions about the book. Receptively, we will work on spatial concepts, conditional directions, answering WH questions, and more! My articulation groups will complete an apple craft and have fun completing Fall Color, Cut, and Glue Activities! In fluency, we will do the same apple craft with a twist! We will be practicing easy onsets.

I have a feeling this will be another successful week in therapy! Have a great week everyone!

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (Plus Freebie!)

Happy Wild About Books Wednesday! Each Wednesday, I talk about a variety of ways to use a specific book in therapy and invite other bloggers to stop by and share their ideas! If you're a blogger, please consider linking up with a new or recent post! Just link up with the picture at the bottom of this post. Today I'm talking about a school favorite - Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin, Jr.!

I adore this book! I even own the CD (I feel so old school for saying that!). It's the perfect book to use with preschool and kindergarten students. It promotes alphabet knowledge, phonological awareness, and fun! There are so many ways to use this book in your speech room:

1) Alphabet Knowledge - As speech-language pathologists, we play a critical role in literacy. It's so important for our little students to gain alphabet awareness. The primary illustrations in this book are letters! It's perfect for talking about letters and their shapes.

2) Rhyming - This book is so much fun for addressing rhyming! You can even whip out the iPad and youtube songs that go along with this book. Children love singing and it's the perfect way to work on rhyme discrimination.

3) Inferencing - It's never too early to start working on inferencing! When all the letters get to the top of the coconut tree even the youngest students can infer that the tree is going to tilt over (when provided with a little scaffolding!). Also, at the end students can infer that the letters are going to race up the coconut tree again!

5) Prepositions - Discuss the locations of all the letters! Letters are over, next to, under, beside, etc the coconut tree! I also created a cute little freebie to compliment this book that addresses prepositions. Students cut out the letters and glue them around the coconut tree according to the preposition given.

A Slice of Speech (September 15th)

I'm so excited to introduce a new weekly series on my blog - A Slice of Speech! I have been totally inspired by Deedee Wills at Mrs.Wills' Kindergarten to share my visual lesson plans. Each Sunday, I plan on providing a peek at my week through visual plans that include all the resources I use for therapy. I also recommend checking out Mrs. Will's Peek at My Week Linky Party. There are lots of time saving ideas being shared over there!

As a speech-language pathologist, my lesson plans focus on expressive language/grammar, receptive language, articulation, and fluency (stuttering).

Friday, September 19th is Talk Like A Pirate Day and I'll be celebrating all week! We will be reading How I Became A Pirate by Melinda Long and tackling many language goals along the way! Expressively, we will be retelling stories in complete sentences, using new vocabulary, and practicing age appropriate syntax.  Receptively, we will answer WH ?s, follow temporal directions, and recognize things that are alike. In fluency, we will complete our "back to fluency" packet and practice easy onsets with pirate themed materials! My articulation groups who are working on /r/ will be completing some fun "Talk Like A Pirate" interactive sheets and my other groups will be delving into my fall themed color, cut, and glue activities!

Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type

Yay! It's Wild About Books Wednesday... which means we are a little bit closer to Friday! haha.. If you're new around here (welcome!), each Wednesday I share ideas about how to use a specific book for speech/language therapy! Confession - I LOVE Farms! I secretly want a chicken coop in my backyard. I'm serious, I've been pinning to Coop, There It Is for years now! But I don't want to get off on the wrong track with my new neighbors haha.. Now, I'm an urban girl at heart.. so I love farms from afar and from my speech room. I provide therapy for K-2 and farm themed activities are super cool at the primary level!

One of my favorite farm-themed books is Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type by Doreen Cronin. It's so witty, it's so cute, and it's farmalicious.

It's about a talented group of cows who use an old typewriter to write Farmer Brown a letter requesting electric blankets. Farmer Brown says no and well... things get real! The hens then ask for electric blankets, farm animals go on strike, and Farmer Brown's farm ends up in shambles!

There are many skills that can be addressed using this book:
1) /l/ blends - click, clack.. clickety, clack.. Need I say more? haha

2) Vocabulary - This book is filled with awesome vocabulary words such as, "ultimatum," "strike," and "neutral party." Scaffold students to use context clues to figure out the meaning of these challenging words. This book can also be used for exposing students to farm vocabulary.

3) Inferencing - Wow, this book is a must for addressing inferencing! At the end, the ducks ask for a diving board, but nothing else is said about it. On the last page, you see a duck diving into the pond! The ending is just one of many opportunities for inferencing.

4) Comparing/Contrasting - Compare the cows and ducks! They both live on the farm and use the typewriter. Other great comparisons could be cows/Farmer Brown or students can compare/contrast themselves to Farmer Brown.

I cannot even tell you how excited I am for fall! I love watching the leaves turn different colors, fall festivals, and pumpkins! Five For Friday! (September 5, 2014)

Yay! It's Friday! I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for her weekly Five For Friday linky party to talk about my week. It's been crazy busy and needless to say I'm super exhausted. The beginning of the school year madness coupled with two nights a week in a skilled nursing facility is almost too much to handle.Yes, I should probably be sleeping instead of blogging! haha

First, I want to share the biggest news of my life! I closed on my first house. It truly is my dream home. Remember my summer bucket list? It included finding my historic dream home and well.. I'm so happy that I was able to mark that task off of my list even if I didn't work out and lose weight. haha

 

This bad boy was built in 1871 - ten years after Lincoln took office!  Okay... so this didn't happen this week, but I'm still knee deep in boxes so it's relevant. lol

 

My cat approves of the window seat! Seriously, she's loving life.... after spending a few days hiding under the bed. Poor thing! You can find me on Instagram sharing pictures of my house and new neighborhood!

My students have been lovin' my Back To Speech packet! We've been slowly completing booklets and learning all about expectations, their goals, and the speech room. We've also been completing many fun school themed activities!

The Old Lady has made her way into my speech room!

My students have been learning about school vocabulary, sequencing, and basic concepts. I'll be continuing this book companion next week too! I have so many activities left to complete and my students can never get enough of the Old Lady.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Labor Day... and by enjoyed I mean I did some couch potating and caught some fireworks! Check out my view on Sunday! This view is just two blocks away from my new home!
